Happy New Year, A Real Beginning

Happy New Year.

That's what we say, right?

Fresh start. New chapter. Clean slate.

Except sometimes, when the calendar flips, life doesn't look all that different. We see the same people. We fall into the same patterns. We hold tight to the same comforts, even the ones that are quietly draining the life out of us.

And we tell ourselves we're fine. That this is just how things are now.

But eventually the question sneaks in:

What is it that keeps us from moving forward?

Is it habits?

Is it our nervous system?

Is it brain wiring like the gurus say?

I am sure some of that is true.

But here's the truth that hits harder:

Another year has passed.

And in that year, we watched people grow.

We watched people pass.

We watched the young step into new seasons.

We watched milestones happen.

We watched time move forward.

And then... there's us.

The ones who aren't in the "new beginnings" phase anymore. The ones who know that sometimes it isn't growth we're watching. It's simply time passing.

That realization can sting a little.

Because if we're not careful, we settle into something that looks a lot like complacency while still telling ourselves we're "fine."

But time keeps going anyway.

So the real question becomes this:

Are we simply passing through life...

or are we still willing to grow?

Because as long as we are breathing, God is not finished.

We don't age out of purpose.

We don't expire spiritually.

We don't graduate from becoming who God designed us to be.

And whether we like it or not, the younger ones are watching.

What do we show them?

That life stops at a certain age?

Or that every single day is a beginning until it isn't?

I've been blessed with friends who prove this to me daily. They are older in years, but not in spirit. They don't complain about life or the aging process that comes with time. They stay busy loving people. Serving. Showing up, and growing.

They carry God in a way that keeps them vibrant.

Not because life is easy. But because their focus is bigger than themselves.

And somewhere along the way, I realized something important:

It really is one day at a time: Actually scratch that it's one second at a time.

That's all we truly have.

This second. This breath. This moment.

And time is passing whether we use it well or not.

So we have to ask ourselves:

What are we doing with the life we've been given?

Are we watching TV to pass the time?

Are we scrolling our way through the years?

Are we just observing other people live?

Or our we courageously stepping into the life God is calling us to build?

Because this isn't a journey of self-promotion or self-help.

This is a journey of obedience and relationship with the God who has chosen us and who loves us more than we can ever understand.

A journey of aligning with God's heart instead of drifting through another year half-awake.

In my last blog, I shared the moment I finally faced the truth:

My life is shaped by my choices.

Not luck.

Not what people did to me.

Not what didn't work out.

ME!

And now here I am, standing at the doorway of a brand-new year knowing that truth still holds.

If I don't change how I show up, nothing changes.

Not my faith.

Not my purpose.

Not my relationships.

Not my future.

And that's both terrifying and freeing.

Terrifying because it means I can't hide behind excuses anymore.

Freeing because it means I am not stuck... unless I decide to stay stuck.

So this year I'm not chasing perfect.

I'm choosing something simpler:

One obedient step.

One honest decision.

One brave choice at a time.

Even when it's messy.

Even when no one is clapping.

Even when it doesn't feel impressive.

Because small choices add up.

Quiet faithfulness compounds.

And tiny acts of courage reshape a life.

God isn't asking me to perform.

He is asking me to show up.

So here it is. The real invitation:

Let this year be the one where you wake up again..

Seek wisdom.

Study truth.

Love deeply.

Live intentionally.

Choose obedience over comfort.

Not for applause.

Not for ego.

But because you belong to God.

Because the world needs the fruit He grows in you.

Because life is short and eternity is real.

And there is no moment more important than this one.

So let's go.

Not perfectly.

But wholeheartedly.

One step.

One breath.

One surrendered yes at a time.

Allow God in to show you where you need to grow and how to do that.

Psalm 139:23-24 (NLT)

"Search me, O God, and know my heart;

test me and know my anxious thoughts.

Point out anything in me that offends you,

and lead me along the path of everlasting life."

Closing Prayer

Father,

Search my heart. Show me what I'm still clinging to, and reveal the fears I've been hiding behind. If there is anything in me that is keeping me from walking fully with you, bring it into the light. Teach me to trust You more than my comfort, my habits, or my excuses. Lead me in Your ways. Shape my thoughts. Steady my heart. And give me the courage to say "yes" to the life You're calling me into. One step at a time. One day at a time. With You.

Amen.
